Cecilia (Simon & Garfunkel Cover)

Before I became a Geek Singer/Songwriter, I spent years performing cover tunes in coffee shops and bars. During that time, I learned literally hundreds of songs. No doubt, this had a pretty positive effect on my own songwriting.

I've been thinking a lot lately about putting out more material, so I figured: "why not share some of these covers that I spent so much time learning?"

This recording of Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia" was recorded for a demo CD that I made with a cover band that I used to play with called Inflatable Soup. (the name is an anagram, figure it out and you will learn that the band had a pretty weird sense of humor) Here's the personnel list:

Sci-Fi Song #16: Mr. Roboto (Styx Cover)

Sci-Fi Song #16 is a cover of Mr. Roboto by Styx. It is really more of a re-imagining rather than a cover. Basically, I took the lyrics of Mr. Roboto and wrote a completely different melody and chord progression.

This song was inspired by Ray and all of his readers at the Cover Me blog . I was their March Cover Commissions Artist and this was the song that they chose in a poll of different Sci-Fi themed cover songs.

I had a great time putting this together and I hope you enjoy it.

1. Yamaha Acoustic Guitar in Open G tuning (My Martin recently suffered an unfortunate accident)
2. G&L ASAT Telecaster Style Electric Guitar in Open G tuning
3. Washburn Electric Bass Guitar
   
4. Rode NT-1 and NT-3 microphones
5. Apple Logic Pro 8 recording software
1. The ES2 software synth and the EXS24 Sampler for the glockenspiel sound
2. Logic's included compressor, delay, and reverb plug-ins
3. The electric guitar parts were recorded through Logic's Guitar Amp Pro plug-in
4. The drum parts were created using Beta Monkey's Drum Werks V loop collection
